Joy: Christmas Card Tutorial

Hello! Hope you are all doing well. I've finally managed to poke my head up from my CHA Projects Mountain to share with you my final Christmas card of this year, along with a tutorial.

I love these vintage colours with a slight grungey theme.

Step 1: To start I've layered old snowflake stickers and chipboard shapes onto kraft card.

Step 2: Covering with a coat of gesso.

Step 3: Here I'm wiping away te excess with a wet wipe to give a lighter, white washed shabby finish.

Step 4: Adding Aqua India ink and misting with water.

Step 5: Next I'm adding Sepia ink for contrast.

Step 6: After drying with a heat gun I'm highlighting with some green Distress ink.

Step 7: I've adding dry wall mesh tape and rubbed a clear ink pad over then sprinkled over embossing powder and paste.

Step 8: Coloring a resin frame with Color  Bloom mist. This is a great way to get your embellies co-ordinating!

Step 9: Now back onto the card assembley. I've scrunched, ripped and distressed the edges of my backing papers which adds real dimension.

Step 10: Back onto the applied Clear Gel sprinkling with glass glitter

Step 11:  Highlighting areas with Clear Crackle paste and glitter.

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and happy holidays x

Steampunk Altered Doll

Hello lovelies! I'm sharing a bit of fun today, in the form of "Steampunk Barbie". I created this project for Mixed Media Place's Go 3D challenge.

I've had this idea in my head for a while now and had the doll on stand by, ready and waiting to be altered!

Our girl's hair has been "gelled" with heavy white gesso and coloured with black mist - in a slightly Cruella fashion ;)

And the back view. Her clothes are orginals which I painted with black gesso then decorated with cotton wool "fur" and a feather neckline. I finished off with a spritz of mica mist.

The ripped, grungy skirt was made from fabric scraps and tulle net. I used Finnabair's checkered mask for some texture and of course some safety pins just *had* to be included.

All steampunk girls need funky canes, this one being made from a wooden skewer and some metals. And check out the large diamond!

I think one of my favourite elements to this creation was the top hat and head piece, which I made with some plastic oddments adding tulle net, deconstructered flower and feathers.

Bye for now,

Prima 12 Days of Christmas Cards:Cigar Box Secrets

Hello lovelies! I'm back with a project for Prima's 12 Days of Christmas challenge, which is now gathering some pace! Today we are featuring...

Christmas projects don't just have to be created with "obvious" Christmas papers - think outside the box! Pick out colours, patterns, or images from standard paper collections that work for the festive season...like I have here with this card; picking out the reds, blues, and deer browns. You'll be amazed how doing this will pull on your creativity!

And here we are;

I've mixed lots of lovely rustic textures adding flashes of festive reds and a these beautiful wooden stag head embellies from Cigar Box Secrets.

As you can see there is much layering on this card, with these gorgeous flowers being the main focus.

I've used a mixture of mismatched letters and highlighted with gold ink and some splashes of tea, which work fabulously!

Whimsical Winter: New Tag Tutorial

Hi guys! Hope this post finds you well. I have a new video tutorial (see below) for you today, featuring this very festive colour palette. I gravititate towards these frosty colours so much this time of year! I'm also entering the tag into this fortnight's Artist Trading Post "Stencils" challenge.

The metals and blue tones are softening with frosty white and tulle net. Doesn't it just make you think of a cold snowy day?

I've used paint, stenciling, 3D paste and India inks to create the background.

Lot of textures and glittery shimmer mix along with this chipboard snowman that I've had in my stash for a while, all ready and pre crackle painted ;) I adding some date stamping details to him for extra interest.

Enjoy the video!

Prima 12 Days Of Christmas Cards challenge: Wooden Icons/SIIC

Hi everyone! Hope all is well with your week so far. Today sees us roll around to the Wood Icons / SIIC feature for Prima's 12 Days Of Christmas Cards challenge.

Wooden icons are ideal to paint, cut, and alter - there's much fun to be had if you think outside the box! I've created this vintage Victorian-feel card using icons from the Cigar Box Secrets collection, along with a variety of SIIC gems. They add beautiful shimmer and colour to any project, especially at Christmas!

To start off with a sheet of paper from the Coffee Break 6x6 pad and used Distress Ink (Peeled Paint) to colour it, layering vintage feel papers.

The frame is backed with an assortment of SIIC, and I've also used them as flower centres. Aren't they just stunning?!

The fab silhouette has been painted black and edged with white so it stood out, whilst I cut a wooden crown up to fit on top of the frame. How versatile are they?!

Hopefully you'll be inspired to join in!

 Day-header
Day 1 kicks off with sparkling, luminous glitter! What could be more perfect for our featured product to kick this off? Choose any of Finnabair's new gorgeous Glass Glitters, colour-filled Glitter Sets, or finely granulated Art Sugars, to show off on your card or tag.

And here's my first Christmas card of the year. Eeek!

Playing around with all that glitter was so fabulously fun!

I cut a 3D polystyrene/styrofoam star cut in half and covered with two slightly contrasting black glitters from the Ebony & Ivory set on alternate sides to give a more dimensional effect. A couple of old resin stars got a makeover with glitter, along with a  Finnabair Epoxy sticker which I dipped the sticky underside into glass glitter and Art Sugar.

I've used spray mount on the back of the card and then applied the some Charcoal Art Sugar, the dabbed with white gesso here and there for a snowy wintery look.

Some glass glitter love going on here :)

I hope you'll be inspired to join in the card challenge, it's definitely a fun one to try!

Prima 12 Days of Christmas Card Challenge: Finnabair

Hi everyone, hope you're all good. Christmas card alert time! Over on the Prima blog today we have another 12 Days of Christmas card challenge, and this time we have Finnabair day....

Of course creating with all that lovely metal was right up my street ;)

Lot's of textures with a vintage vibe going on...

This metal scroll (from Mechanicals Leaves 1) has been upturned and filled the recess with Matte Gel and Art Ingredients beads. I added a tiny sprinkle of Art Sugar and ink for some slight colour.

I've used a random mix of letters for the "Noel" greeting, making the O the centre piece and filling with mica flakes. The cute little tag has been covered in white crackle paint and then given it a coat of alcohol ink, and I just love the grungy look it gave.

Lots of layers of Vintage Vanity papers, with this uber 3D snowflakes sitting on top. I've used a die cut cork snowflake and layered with with Prima flowers and Finn's Mechanicals. Swoon!
